Electrical Contact Problem and Solution

            NEW STERNUM SAW

Manman Sternum Saw is in use for several years. In last few years we have done modifications in the shape of the Sternum Saw but we have not included it in our production list.
I am giving the details of few models of Sternum Saw which are now available on our product list. The first one is Revolving Head.
Many surgeons found the driving shaft inconvenient when moving up or down. It creates a sort of drag on the hand. We have changed the mechanism and now you will see the head is revolving and no more drag.
Recently we finalized the Pediatric Sternum Saw where the demand was for the anchor to be small with a reduced width of blade. A photograph explains the Paediatric Sternum Saw. There are three other shapes also available - Stub, Slick  and Paediatric.

Neuro Product - Craniotome & Perforator System

The Manman Craniotome and Perforator System (Electrical) is in use in India for more than 20 years. We are striving to maintain the quality of the hand piece that is mainly about the Anchor and Cutter. In case you come across any difficulty or any irregularities, do not hesitate to contact us. Your suggestions are also welcome and you may email them at: info@manmaninda.com

Mostly we receive complaints and suggestions about handling the dura and performance of the cutter. In such cases, if you send the hand piece directly to us we will take immediate corrective action. When I say the repeated usage of Craniotome is yet to be standardized, I mean there is no fixed number that tells us how many times a cutter should be used. Since the availability of the cutters was less earlier, the same cutter was used for more cases. Now, the cutters are available in plenty.

We are also facing repeated problems of bending of the Anchor. The thickness of the anchor is less than the diameter of the cutter. The anchor is neither likely to jam in the slit nor to bend. The bending of the anchor

Sometimes the theater technicians or persons in autoclave department forget to put the cap on the Craniotome hand piece. The purpose of the cap is to protect the Anchor and Craniotome. This is not achieved if the cap is not in position. We are also working towards improving the material of the anchor.

A good suggestion that came forth from some surgeons was to increase the diameter of Perforator Cutter. Dr. Vilas, a Neuro Surgeon was very much in favour of having a Perforator of 20mm size. I was reluctant to directly go for that size. So we developed one perforator of 20 mm on trial and to my surprise it was successful. The only hitch was that the output power of the existing Perforator hand piece was not sufficient. We had to develop a perforator with more output power and it was tried at Pune Institute of Neurology. After many such trials we further prepared other sizes of 18mm, 16mm and 14mm. The previous Perforator Cutters of 12mm, 10mm and 8mm can also work on the same hand piece. Of course, we will have to go for a new Perforator of less revolutions! If you are interested to know more, email to: info@manmanindia.com.

There is another new suggestion for having a revolving connection at the top of Craniotome hand piece. This may be more convenient in handling. I will elaborate in the next bulletin.

Ortho Product- Reverse-Forward Handpiece

At the recent IOACON at Chennai we demonstrated Reverse-Forward hand piece. You may wonder why I am mentioning about it. We have done some interesting work. Now, it makes less noise. When you are using it as a drilling hand piece and you want to reverse it, the New Reverse-Forward Drilling Hand piece makes that possible at a speed of 1200 rpm approx.
Another hand piece but with A/O Coupling has lesser speed that is 350 rpm. Both the hand pieces are having 5mm cannulation. The weight of the drilling hand piece is 800 gms and the A/O COUPLING hand piece weighs 835 gms.

We have taken care to reduce the noise of the gearing. But when changing gears, care should be taken. In any gear changing situation, a pause is required. So it is with the Reverse-Forward hand piece. By default the hand piece rotates in forward direction only. When you want it in reverse mode, the trigger needs to be pulled. It is advised to take a few seconds pause till the rotary motion stops. Then pull it further till you get the feel of change and the reverse rotation starts.  This care will avoid noise of chattering while changing gear.
